Well done to all 837 runners, out of 1,100 entries, who finished the Rathfarnham 5k on Sunday 29th September. It was the race after the wind and rain, with perfect running conditions. With 13 finishers under 15.00 minutes, 30 under 16.00, 62 under 17.00, 111 under 18.00, 162 under 19.00 and 200 at 20.00 and under. With the first 4 ladies under 17.00 and 10 ladies at 18.02 and under, this is truely the fastest 5k in Ireland. In addition we had 424 under 25.00, 678 under 30.00 and 828 under 40.00 and several PBs were achieved.
Efrem Gidey, Clonlife Harriers won the race in 14.18, Ian Guiden, Clonliffe was 2nd. in 14.20 and Kevin Maunsell, Clonmel Ac was 3rd in 14.23. In the ladies Race, Mary Mulhare, Portlaoise AC was first in 16.46, Cheryl Nolan, St. Abbans AC was 2nd. in 16.55 and Una Britton, Kilkoole AC was 3rd. in 16.56. In the men’s team event Clonliffe Harriers AC won, DSD AC was 2nd. and Rathfarnham WSAF AC was 3rd. In the ladies team event Rathfarnham WSAF AC won, Clonliffe Harriers were 2nd. and Raheny Shamrocks AC were 3rd. We had 18 teams finishing in the mens team event and 13 teams in the ladies event and so the AI Club event was very competitive.
