Road closures and traffic management during the 5k
Dodder View Road will be closed from 8.30 to 10.30 on race day or until the last runner has finished the 5k. The cycle lane from Fairways Junction will remain closed during the 5k. Runners should not race in the cycle lane as the race has been measured using the Jones Counter on the left lane of the road. From Rathfarnham Road Bridge to Terenure Cross the left lane will be closed until the last runner has passed. The same left lane will remain closed for runners on Templeogue Road up to the Templeville Road trafic lights. The race will then take the left turn onto Springfield Road, its left lane will be closed. From Fairways Junction to the race finish both lanes will be closed. Please obey the Gardai and race stewards to ensure the race is accident free.
As Dodder View Road is now very narrow due to the cycle lane and is to be used for the start and finish, be careful running down from the start. Bicycles, electronic scooters and buggys ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE COURSE DURING THE RACE. Those breaking this rule will be removed by the Stewards.
Your health and safety during the 5k
As Dodder View Road is very narrow at the race start buggies and bicycles accompanying runners are not allowed on the course. Wheelchair athletes are asked to start their race 15 minutes before the main bunch at 9.15, so as to ensure they have a safe run.
All runners must enter their correct starting chute to ensure their safety, with starting chutes determined by projected finishing times e.g. Less than 15 minutes; 16 - 18 minutes, over 20 minutes etc.
Please run through the finish line in order to prevent a pile up of runners finishing after you.
Elite athlete entry process
Rathfarnham WSAF Athletic Club promotes excellence in running and will operate an elite athlete entry system. As this race was sold out in 2025, any athlete who has run under 16.00 for a 5k in the past year and 18.00 for women, have up until Thursday 24th September to enter this race. Proof of past times can be sent to pjclaffey58@gmail.com and a separate entry link will be sent to you.
